Encountering God

If God enters your room right now. How would you react? Sometimes, our first encounter with God take us by surprise and our response can change the whole course of our lives.

It’s Not About Me

My first encounter with God was through reading the book ‘Purpose Driven Life’ by Rick Warren. He met me when I was not seeking Him and yet through the encounter, changed my whole perspective of what is my life’s purpose. Until today- the first sentence of the book still carries the same effect as it did years ago- “life is not about you, but about God”.

I used to resent how my journey of knowing God wasn’t a 180° story as some people experience when they first encounter God. As time passes, I learn to be grateful that God, who knows me the most, knows how to meet me and what I need to grow in Him. It is through Him dispensing His love and grace to me in my day-to-day life that I have come to know Him more. Through the highs and lows in life, I have come to see Him as my loving Father and my best friend.

Life is not about you, but about God.

Seek And You Will Find

It is great that we desire to have a powerful encounter with God but God is more interested in building a relationship with us. He does not just want a one-off encounter with us. He wants to dwell with us and build a home in us. 1 Corinthians 3:16 reminds us that we are God’s temple and His Spirit dwells in our midst.

So if God enters your room right now, the rightful response is to commune with Him as Jesus’ disciples did when they shared a meal, delight in His presence as a child would in their Father’s presence and worship Him as our rightful King. Allow Him to renew you as you encounter Him daily. Make ourselves available to encounter God and see how He continues to show us more of His nature through these encounters.

If you have not yet an encounter with God, His Word promises that He will reward those who seek Him (Hebrews 11:6).
